that I’m more obsessed with Harry Potter than I realized. It’s kinda bad when almost everything on my Tumblr is Harry Potter related… oops(;
But seriously.. like after I finished the series a couple years ago, I’ve kinda been losing how much I absolutely am in love with the series and why it means so much to me. This is going to sound REALLY dumb to a lot of people, but frankly, I don’t care.
Harry Potter was what made me want to become a writer. It’s what lead me to discover not only my natural ability but my passion for writing. It’s what made me fall head over heels in love with reading and with everything about the fictional world. There’s just something truly amazing about being able to completely lose yourself in a book and not return for hours. Books are totally unlike anything else. Especially Harry Potter. For me, at least.
J.K. Rowling is my idol in every sense of the word. I’ve always maintained that if I could meet anybody in the world, it would be her, in a heartbeat. If I could write a book even HALF as well as her.. well then I’ve accomplished my dream, tenfold.
I laugh at the ignorant people who have never read the books, never seen the movies, yet make fun of everything about them. First of all, you’re being ignorant idiots. Second of all, you’re missing out big time, but that’s your own decision. What they fail to realize is that there is so much more to the series than the story of a young wizard. That’s not the magic of it at all. It is a tale of struggling to belong, struggling to be accepted, to be happy, to overcome. It’s a commentary on society, how within every single person - no matter how evil - there is genuine good. It’s about courage, loyalty, friendship, love… the list is never ending. The series is incredibly deep in meaning, as well as action. It’s unbelievable how attached to the characters readers can get. How is it possible that so many of us bawl our eyes out over the death of these made up, fictional people? Heck, I even cried out of sheer joy when Ron finally kissed Hermione.
It’s INSANE how much people can relate to the series. Children to adults. It trampled over the age barrier and reached out to every generation. Honestly, there simply are not words to do it justice.
All I know is that when I closed the first Harry Potter book I ever read, laying on the hammock in my backyard in second grade, my mind was made up. I stared at the cover, then spoke with surprising certainty.
“I’m being an author.”
And I intend to do just that.
